    How Automated Glass Doors Work

    Automated sliding glass doors use a motorised drive unit mounted above the door frame. This unit contains a DC or AC motor connected to a belt or chain drive mechanism that moves the glass panels along a precision-engineered aluminium track. The entire system is concealed within the door header for a clean architectural finish.

    Motion sensors, typically microwave or infrared, detect approaching pedestrians from a configurable distance (usually 2–4 metres). When a person is detected, the controller signals the motor to open the doors at a preset speed. Safety sensors along the door edges and floor-level detect obstacles, immediately reversing the door to prevent entrapment.

    The system includes an emergency manual release mechanism that allows the doors to be pushed open during power failures or fire alarm activation. This is a critical safety feature required by building codes and ensures uninterrupted emergency egress.

    Modern systems also support integration with building management systems (BMS), allowing centralised control of door schedules, access restrictions, and maintenance alerts. Night-time locking modes, reduced-speed modes for energy saving, and one-way traffic control are all configurable through the control panel.
