How Motorised Pedestrian Gates Work
Motorised pedestrian gates use compact swing or sliding motor units specifically designed for lightweight pedestrian-scale gates and doors. A DC motor drives the gate leaf through an arm or linear actuator mechanism, opening and closing the gate automatically upon receiving a trigger signal.
Access triggers include proximity card readers, biometric scanners, video intercom call buttons, remote controls, and push-to-exit buttons. The control board manages the opening sequence, hold-open timer, and closing cycle. Safety sensors detect obstacles in the gate's path and reverse direction to prevent injury.
These systems are commonly installed at pedestrian entrances alongside vehicle gates, providing a dedicated secure walkway for foot traffic. They integrate with the same access control infrastructure as vehicle gates, allowing a single credential to operate both pedestrian and vehicle barriers.
Weather-resistant designs with IP65-rated components ensure reliable operation in Kenya's varied climate conditions, from coastal humidity to highland dust and rain.
System Capabilities
Compact Motors
Purpose-built DC motors for pedestrian gates. Low power consumption with quiet operation suitable for residential environments.
Multi-Credential Access
Support for access cards, biometrics, intercoms, remotes, and push-to-exit buttons on a single gate.
Safety Sensors
Infrared obstacle detection prevents gate closure on people or objects. Auto-reverse with configurable force sensitivity.
Weather Resistance
IP65-rated motors and control boards designed for outdoor installation in all weather conditions.
Auto-Close Timer
Configurable hold-open duration and automatic closing ensures the gate is never left open unintentionally.
Unified Access Control
Integrates with the same access control system as vehicle gates for single-credential operation across all entry points.
Benefits of Automation
- Improved security by ensuring pedestrian gates close and lock automatically
- Controlled access using the same credentials as the main vehicle gate
- Convenience for residents and staff with hands-free credential operation
- Remote operation and monitoring through access control management software
- Integration with CCTV for visual verification of pedestrian entries
- Battery backup ensures continued operation during power outages
