    Technical Overview

    How Access Control Systems Work

An access control system consists of three core components: credentials (what identifies the user), readers (what captures the credential), and controllers (what decides whether to grant or deny access). These work together to ensure only authorised personnel can enter secured areas.

Credentials include RFID proximity cards, NFC-enabled smartphones, biometric data (fingerprints, facial features), PIN codes, and QR codes. When a credential is presented to a reader, the reader captures the data and sends it to the access controller. The controller checks the credential against its authorisation database and, if valid, sends a signal to release the door lock, turnstile, or gate motor.

Modern cloud-based access control systems store authorisation databases in the cloud, allowing facility managers to add or revoke access credentials from anywhere using a web portal or smartphone app. Real-time access logs record every entry and exit event with timestamps, enabling detailed audit trails and attendance tracking.

Visitor management systems extend this by allowing pre-registration of visitors, generating temporary QR code passes, notifying hosts of visitor arrival, and automatically expiring credentials after the visit period. Integration with fire alarm systems ensures all access points unlock during emergencies.

    Key Features

    System Capabilities

    RFID & NFC Card Access

Proximity cards and NFC-enabled smartphone credentials for contactless, rapid access at all entry points.

    Biometric Readers

Fingerprint scanners and facial recognition terminals for high-security areas requiring positive identity verification.

    QR Code Scanners

Generate unique QR codes for visitors and temporary access. Scanners at entry points verify codes in real-time.

    Visitor Management

Pre-register visitors, generate temporary credentials, notify hosts, and automatically expire access after the visit window.

    Cloud Management Portal

Web-based dashboard for managing users, access schedules, credential issuance, and viewing real-time access logs.

    System Integration

Interface with turnstiles, gate motors, glass doors, CCTV, fire alarms, and time-and-attendance systems.
